Jimmy's Wing Hut
During my time at North Central State College a major project that we completed was creating a corporate identity for a fictional restaurant. We were tasked with conceptualizing a restaurant from logo, to branded cookbook pages while keeping a consistent brand and theme while also learning to create and communicate different forms of stationary. The project later evolved into creating a website (which can be viewed in my web design section).
My fictional client was “Jimmys Wing Hut.” I was assigned a letter at random which was “J”. I then had to create a logo from the letter and develop that into a fully branded identity. My idea inspiration for the logo and overall theme was a play on “Buffalo Wild Wings” and “Pizza Hut”. A more casual sports bar and grill with food that leans closer towards fast-food speed but has an indoor environment that leans towards “Bar & Grill.

Newsletter Design
Using this branded identity, we created a “corporate identity” with branded business cards, envelopes, and newsletters, which would be mailed out to execs and employees. Due to the nature of the project, we used lots of colors and big logos to really showcase that this is a branded project. As I reflect with real-world context, I don’t believe this would be the most effective design. I think corporations need to be more cost-effective and the envelope design for example would use way too much ink.
Event Postcard Design
The next section of the project was to create an event postcard and the envelope that it would be mailed in. The target audience of this would be restaurant newsletter subscribers who would receive special deals and coupons.

The final parts of the project focused on using the restaurant identity to create designs that require type manipulation and organization. This includes a “foldable” menu for use in the restaurant and a “sponsored” recipe in a cookbook.

This project’s goal was to place a designer in the shoes of a total rebrand. I had to create various forms of stationary and learn the different processes of typesetting rules and layouts while keeping a consistent look that did not deviate from specific rules and guidelines.
